CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

An early morning fire forced a family from their home, and resulted in the death of the family pet.

The fire broke out around 4 a.m. at a small wooden home on the 3700 block of Seagull Boulevard, in the Corpus Christi Beach area. Officials said it took twelve minutes to put the fire out. The man and woman living in the home got out okay, though a family pet, a dog, perished in the fire.

The home suffered major smoke damage, and the American Red Cross is stepping in to help out.

Fire investigators said, while the cause of the fire is unknown, it is suspicious in nature. They will continue to investigate.
