One in four teens have sent a nude picture of themselves through electronic means. About half of teens have been asked to send a nude picture, and about a third have asked for a nude picture to be sent to them.
All of this comes out of a University of Texas study of about 1000 teens.
"A lot of kids have engaged in this behavior," psychologist Kate Eshleman said. "Either asked, been asked, or sent. And then what they also found is that kids that are engaging in this behavior are at an increased likelihood to be engaging in other physical sexual activity."
Experts said the potential consequences of "sexting" include cyberbullying, stalking behavior and a negative impact on one's image, identity, self-esteem and relationships.
