CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
The Corpus Christi Police Department will be cracking down this holiday, trying to prevent drunk drivers from getting on the road. The District Attorneys office is working together with the department to catch offenders and prevent accidents.
The DA's office has also hired phlebotomists to draw blood at the detention center. If a driver refuses to take a breathalyser exam, police will then apply for a warrant to draw blood immediately. This helps cut time for officers, and gets a DWI offender into the system faster.
"We're not looking to catch anyone. Our primary goal is for prevention," said Kirck Stowers of the CCPD. "We would really like it if everyone would just make ahead of time a plan and not go to jail. It is preventable."
Police said they will be all over the city, and have no specific target area. The Sheriff's Office will also assist in the effort.
