Madeline Rackley, 25, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter in the death of 25-year old Jarrett Ryan Whittington, a 2005 graduate of Carroll High School.
Austin police said this is not Rackley's first run-in with the law. In 2009, Rackley was convicted of driving while intoxicated.
Police said that at around 2 a.m. Sunday night, Rackley drove her car into Lady Bird Lake. Whittington, who was in the back seat, drowned on the scene. Rackley and another passenger were able to make it out.
The ABC affiliate in Austin, KVUE, reported that Whittington loved the sport of tennis, and was scheduled to start teaching a tennis camp at the University of Texas at San Antonio in coming weeks.
