Veterans representing every branch of the armed services gathered Wednesday morning at Sherrill Park, as they do every Fourth of July.
The veterans band provided a soothing soundtrack to the patriotic ceremony. The event is a way of recognizing the men and women who currently serve, veterans and those who fought and died in the defense of our country.
"We must never forget freedom is not free," state Rep. Connie Scott said. "A veteran has paid the price for all of us."
"Everyday, our soldiers are out there sacrificing lives," said Letisia Rendon, a supporter of the military. "Their families are without them every single day, wondering if they are still alive, and we need to remember every day, we live the life we do today because of them out there."
