We all know fiber is an important part of any diet, but do you really know what it does for your body?
"One of the benefits of fiber is, yes, you're staying fuller longer," registered dietitian Laura Jeffers said. "It also helps to clean out the things that are kind of sticking in our bodies that make us unhealthy as well. So, there are lots of benefits that fiber can provide."
Fiber has also been linked to a decreased risk of diverticulitis, heart disease, diabetes and even some cancers.
If you are trying to get more fiber into your diet, take it slow, and start with fiber in its natural forms, like fresh fruits and vegetables, oats and beans; and when it comes to things like fiber bars or cereals, you need to look closely at the ingredients label to make sure they aren't full of added sugars.
