It's July, and time for the Guns N' Hoses Blood Drive Challenge, an annual competition between law enforcement and firefighting entities to see who can bring in the most blood donations for the Coastal Bend Blood Center.
Kicking off the event, Corpus Christi Police Chief Floyd Simpson and Corpus Christi Fire Chief Robert Rocha donated blood at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Nueces County Courthouse.
Throughout the month of July, all blood donors will have the option of crediting their donation to "guns" or "hoses". At the end of the month, donations will be tallied to see who gets bragging rights for bringing in the most donations.
The Corpus Christi Hooks have provided an extra incentive to donate blood this month. All donors during the month of July will be given a voucher for two general admission tickets to an upcoming Hooks baseball game at Whataburger Field.
All area residents are encouraged to donate.
