The Corpus Christi Fire Chief and the Corpus Christi Police Chief came together for a great cause on Monday.
Both men rolled up their sleeves and donating blood to the Coastal Bend Blood Center. It's part of an annual tradition and friendly competition for both departments, the Guns N' Hoses Blood Drive Challenge.
The drive will last through the month of July, and whichever department donates the most blood wins major bragging rights.
In the last nine years, the Fire Department has come out on top.
"I think it's a great competition for public safety to participate in this worthy endeavor, and I'm hoping the fire department comes out again, ahead, this year," said Chief Robert Rocha of the Corpus Christi Fire Department.
"I don't look at it as winners and loser," said Chief Floyd Simpson of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "I think the community wins when the fire chief and I show leadership in worthy causes, and that's what we are doing today."
You can help out too, by donating blood during the month of July in honor of your favorite firefighter or police officer.
The Coastal Bend Blood Center hosts mobile blood drives seven days a week.
