Hearings to discuss a proposed surcharge on all properties have been postponed by the Texas Department of Insurance, but a rally against the proposal is still set to take place at 9:45 a.m. July 13 at City Hall.
The hearings had been set to take place on Thursday, July 12, in Austin, and Friday, July 13, in Corpus Christi. They will now be rescheduled for a later date.
The purpose of the TDI hearings was to discuss a new rule that could create a surcharge on all property policies, including auto, homeowners, commercial and Texas Windstorm Insurance Association policies, for the 14 counties that comprise the Texas coast.
Foster Edwards, the president and CEO of the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce, said that the postponement of the hearings means nothing, and that people still need to rally against windstorm funding proposals.
The Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce will rally against windstorm funding proposals on the Staples Street steps outside of City Hall.
For more information on the rally, contact Government Affairs Coordinator Desiree Castro at 361-881-1800, or send her an email at desiree@theccchamber.org.
