FROM THE CORPUS CHRISTI POLICE DEPARTMENT -

Occurred on 7/10/12, 09:53 am  Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon  2500 Tarlton Street

An Officer checking his beat for burglars observed a Hispanic male ride through the parking lot of H.E.B. at a high rate of speed.  The male was carrying a blue plastic case and continued on ignoring a Stop Sign  at the intersection of Tarlton and MacArthur.  The Officer followed the bicyclist who pulled into a yard and began trying to open the blue case he'd been carrying.

As the Officer approached the male continued to open the case, but when he was unable to do, he rode away.  The bicyclist refused to stop when ordered to do so.  Both the Officer and bicyclist fell to the ground with the Officer trying to restrain the suspect.  The suspect continued to struggle with the Officer swinging at him with the blue case.  During the struggle the Officer deployed his taser  and the suspect fell to the  pavement, but continued to resist, attempting to run off.  Backup Officers arrived and Marcos Palacios, 35, was placed in handcuffs.  Officers retrieved  the blue case and found it contained a loaded handgun

Palacios was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Firearm and Resisting Arrest.  The weapons charge is a 3rd Degree Felony and punishable by up to ten years and a $10,000 fine.
