CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
The United Methodist Church on Oak Park has stood since the 1930s, but will soon be nothing more than a memory.
Demolition crews have been at the 800 block of Oak Park Avenue for a number of days and their work there is just about finished.
Crews are demolishing the structure because the church decided it was too costly to rebuild, and besides, there were very few members left attending church. Last March, a fire swept through the facility and damaged it heavily.
With only 20 members left, the Methodist Church decided to tear the place down and asked members to attend St. Lukes Church.
A deconsecration ceremony took place there in December at a service where the members said their goodbyes, to a church that had been around since 1935.
