Wanted Murder Suspect Arrested During Routine Traffic Stop

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A man wanted for murder is now behind bars.

Jose Moreno, 29, is accused of killing a 41-year old man who coincidentally had the same name. The murder took place at the Cadillac Bar on Ayers back on June 29.

Moreno was arrested, believe it or not, during a routine traffic stop Monday night.

According to police, a patrol officer pulled over a car for not using a turn signal at the intersection of Tarlton and Prescott Street. Investigators said Moreno and the female driver, 26-year old Jessica Lopez, were acting suspicious during the stop.

In fact, Moreno tried to outsmart police by giving them a fake name and date of birth.

"The male gave a date for birth, and when he asked how old he was the math didn't work out," said Captain J. Brady of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "When he asked again he gave a slightly different one."

While officers were patting down Moreno, they found his wallet. Inside was a driver's license which identified him as Jose Moreno, who is wanted for murder.

Police have been looking for Moreno ever since the June 29 shooting. Investigators said Moreno shot and killed a 41-year old man during a fight outside the bar, and has been on the run ever since.

Moreno and Lopez's one-year old daughter were in the backseat when they were pulled over. The child is staying with a family member for now.

Police also found methamphetamine in the car, so the couple faces charges for drug possession and child endangerment.
