CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
One of the biggest conventions to ever hit Corpus Christi was officially kicked off Tuesday afternoon.
The 84th Annual Future Farmers of America State Convention held their opening ceremony at the American Bank Center, where over 12,000 members of the Texas FFA, along with parents, teachers and guests, were in attendance.
More than $2 million in scholarships was up for grab for the students.
"It's great. We're hoping to break some attendance records," FFA State Vice President Shelbie Thabs said. "We hope that everyone is as excited as we are."
The mission of the FFA is to develop a student's potential for leadership roles in the community and career success, all through agriculture education. The convention wraps up on Friday.
