Survey of City Buildings Spells Bad News for Some Structures

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

There's a huge survey and inventory taking place right now across the city.

City Manager Ron Olson has ordered staffers to examine all city buildings and properties, and catalogue their condition and future repair needs. A couple of those structures appear to be in trouble.

The City Motor Pool building behind City Hall had a skeleton crew working there Wednesday, and several sections of the building had been roped off.

City engineering was housed in part of the building until the structure was deemed uninhabitable. Now it's used for storage until the City can tear down all of the structures.

The City's parking control and Enduro Bike Unit is also housed in the motor pool facility.

The City has a number of aging buildings that are in need of replacement and officials are now working to figure out how to replace them and get a better handle on the rest of the City's structures; so, a complete survey is now underway.

The survey is supposed to be complete by January. There are at least 345 buildings and properties that are part of the study.
