CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
A recent scam has swindled local businesses for nearly $1,600 dollars.
The local scammers have been approaching local businesses, either by email or phone, and saying they're with the Corpus Christi Army Depot. They're using the CCAD logo and selling ad space in a fake welcome guide, costing anywhere from $800-$2,300.
The scammers apparently started to make bizarre promises, like saying the welcome guide would reach 20,000 soldiers.
"They didn't realize that CCAD, even though it's Army Depot, it's not troops," said Alan Bligh of the Better Business Bureau. "You can see things were wrong, and they were selling advertising in something that would never be published."
The BBB said never pay anyone up front. Always check them out before giving any type of payment.
