Strangers Assault 50-Year-Old in Hotel Parking Lot

Occurred on 7/15/12, 2:19 am  Assault  3101 Surfside Boulevard

Officers responding to a fight call at a local hotel arrived to find chaos reigning in the parking lot with suspects fleeing in two separate vehicles.

Police were able to pull over one of the suspect vehicles with four suspects inside.  The four were positively identified by a witness who told Officers they began to assault the victim punching and kicking him in face and head.  The motive for the assault was unknown as Officers were unable to talk to the victim who was taken to Spohn Memorial with facial injuries, possibly a broken nose.

Robert Rodriguez Sr., 46, and Robert Rodriguez Jr., 27, Jeremy Andrew Valdez, 23, and John A. Valdez, 37, were all arrested and booked at the City Detention Center.  All four were charged with Assault, a Class "A" Misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

Robert Rodriguez Sr. refused to provide his name to Officers and charged additionally charged with Failure to Identify.  Robert Rodriguez Jr. was also found to have an outstanding Municipal Court warrant for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility with a fine of $423,  John Valdez was also charged with two outstanding Municipal Court warrant for Speeding in a School Zone with a fine of $207.10.
