Copper Thieves Hit Local Catholic School

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Copper thieves have taken aim at Christ the King School, a local Catholic school on Arlington Drive.

The theft occurred over the weekend, and was noticed by employees on Monday as they were getting their classrooms ready for students.

Mike Sepulveda, the school principal, said the thieves cut wire fencing to get to the units, then got on the roof and stripped twelve air conditioners.

"We hope this doesn't happen again," Sepulveda said. "We are getting ready to start school. This doesn't certainly help at all. We hope they catch the person and that this doesn't happen to any other school or business."

The principal said they are still assessing the damages. They do have insurance, but are still waiting on the air conditioning company for an estimate on all the work.
