Corpus Christi Beach is about to be renamed as the City is looking to bring back the glory years.
Most people in town still call it North Beach. It is the tourist area that includes the Texas State Aquarium and the USS Lexington. Back in the 1930s and 40s, it was a popular tourist attraction.
Then, in 1959, the City Council renamed it Corpus Christi Beach, a change that really never went over well, and led to constant confusion among tourists and residents.
Council agreed with the sentiment to officially rename the area North Beach. That measure was approved unanimously on Tuesday, and will go into effect if Council green lights it on a second vote next week.
