CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
A 21-year old mother was arrested after Corpus Christi Police Department officers said she left her two-month old at home alone.
Just before midnight, police arrested Sophia Pichardo and charged her with public intoxication after they spotted her at the intersection of 22nd and Ruth, drinking a beer and yelling at someone. While in the back of the squad car, Pichardo told police that her infant was home alone at a nearby apartment.
Police ended up finding the baby unattended, and Child Protective Services was called to the scene.
Pichardo was additionally charged with child abandonment which, if convicted, could mean 20 years in prison.
