A Beaumont man has been charged and arrested in connection with the June death of a 76-year-old man.
Detectives on Wednesday received a warrant for the arrest of Melvin Spikes III, 38, charging him with capital murder in the death of Emerson Franklin, 78, of Beaumont.
Franklin's body was found at his home located at 1237 Hillebrandt Rd. on Sunday, June 17, 2012.
According to 12News HD file stories, members of the victim's church made a call to the Sheriff's Office when he did not show up to church. Deputies found the front door kicked in and signs of a struggle at the house.
If Spikes is found guilty, the state could seek the death penalty.
Spikes is currently held at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Correctional facility. His bond for the murder charge is set at $300,000.
A Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokesperson says Spikes is also charged with a parole violation. There is no bond set for this charge.
