The local chapter of the American Red Cross is looking for a few good heroes.
They're on the hunt for businesses, organizations or individuals who can help them raise money for disaster relief. Specifically, they're hoping each entity can raise and donate at least $1,000 in the next three weeks, and that money can be raised any way you'd like.
"Red Cross depends on donations to survive," said Pete Wyro, director of the local chapter of the Red Cross. "We helped almost 1,000 people in a 12-month period with different emergencies. Disaster flooding, tornadoes. That's where our funding comes from. We don't get any government funding, so we depend on individuals and businesses willing to contribute and help our cause."
The Heroes Challenge will culminate with what they're calling the Heroes Breakfast. It will be held the morning of August 14 at the Solomon Ortiz Center.
Every person or group who raises at least $1,000 will be recognized, along with some hometown heroes, first responders in this community who risk their lives for all of us.
