Questions linger in the death of a Beaumont soldier.
21-year-old Pvt. David E. Vines was found dead Monday around 8 a.m. Military Police and emergency personnel found him in his barracks in Fort Lee Virginia.
Before leaving for the Army in June of last year, Pvt. Vines spent his time working at a Little Caesars in Beaumont. There he made friends with Murlin Richard and Richard says it's one he will never forget.
"I didn't immediately break down in tears because I thought it was a joke, but it was real," 27-year-old Murlin Richard said.
Richard has seen employees come and go in his 10 years at Little Caesars. But perhaps the one who made the biggest impact on his life was David Vines.
"I called him my little big brother, he was younger but every little thing I didn't know he answered," Richard said.
Richards describes Vines as a respectful, intelligent person who could solve any problem or fix anything with ease. The duo worked together for almost three years before Vines decided to join the Army in June 2011.
"He wanted to see the world," Richard said.
Vines untimely death Monday morning leaves a hole in Richards heart and questions in his mind. But Richard says Vines will live on through their memories together.
"He came in and spread love and joy across the story. He pretty much taught me something new everyday," Richard said.
Investigators do not suspect foul play in Pvt. Vines death but have not completely ruled it out. Pvt. Vines served as a Petroleum Supply Specialist during his time in the U.S. Army.
