Mother Nature provided a close call for residents in one Aransas Pass neighborhood on Wednesday.
"It sounded like something I never heard before," Aransas Pass resident Eva Young said.
What Young heard was her neighbor's tree being struck by lightning. It sent pieces of wood and bark all the way across the street.
The lightning strike happened at a home on the corner of Lamont and Stoddard. The homeowner there said she knew something had been hit, but didn't realize how close it actually was to her home.
"All of a sudden, I heard a loud crack that must of hit something," said Penny Upton, who lives at the house where the tree was struck. "Praise the Lord it didn't hit my house. I looked out the window and saw all of this wood on the road. What in the world?"
Upton said her electricity never even flickered during the lightning strike.
