Health Fair for Kids Teaches Youngsters About Diabetes

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

It was a real-life lesson for some nursing students at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and a potential life-saving lesson for area children.

"It's basically to educate the kids about diabetes," said Heather Lambert, a nursing student at TAMUCC. "Diabetes here in the Coastal Bend is like one of the fastest growing problems."

The nursing students held the Health Fair for Kids at the Boys and Girls Club, where every child was tested for diabetes and weighed to check for obesity. The American Heart Association and WIC, as well as representatives from Driscoll Children's Hospital and the Christus Spohn Health System, were also on hand to show families what sort of health resources are out there for them.
