CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Members of the greatest generation were honored for their contributions to our community Thursday night.

"I don't look for this recognition, but it's nice to be appreciated," honoree Dr. Tony C. Diaz said.

Diaz is retired now, but he used to be a member of the school board. He said he likes to work with our youth.

Diaz was just one of six folks honored for setting an example for future generations.

"What they experienced through the depression as World War II, it's impossible to recognize that these struggles were overcome with heart and determination," said Elsa Munoz, chair of the Mayor's Council on Aging. "They've never given up, and they've made our country the great country it is."

Thursday's event was held at the Mirador Senior Living Resort, and was put on by the Mayor's Council on Aging, part of the City of Corpus Christi.
