Diabetes educators from around the state gathered at the Del Mar College West Campus on Friday to continue learning about the epidemic.
The first of its kind seminar concentrated on Community Health workers, who bridge the gap between patients in rural areas and physicians. Health educators learned more about nutrition, glucose monitoring and foot care, receiving all kinds of information to share with their diabetes clients.
"I'm just looking for new information to help the public," said Paula Crawford, Community Health worker instructor. "We have a high diabetes rate in Victoria County, especially in the Crossroads area. I also have eight students to be certified. I wanted them to come for the practice of their class."
More than 40 diabetes educators from as far away as Lubbock attended Friday's conference.
