Port Acres evacuation lifted

Posted: Updated:

The Port Arthur Fire Department tells 12News HD the evacuation order along West Port Arthur Road has been lifted and the road is now reopened.

At 8:15 p.m. Saturday,  Port Arthur fire fighters said the second of two explosions at the same pipeline prompted a mandatory evacuation for some Port Acres residents.

The pipeline fire happened in the area of West Port Arthur Road near 61st and 62nd Streets.

There have been no injuries reported.

Fire officials say at the start of the fire, flames reached up to 100 feet into the air.

According to Port Arthur Fire Department Public Information Officer Captain Troy Orvine, a lightning strike just before 5 p.m. is believed to be the cause of the pipeline fire.

Officials say the pipeline carries ethylene and is owned by Chevron.

Chevron Pipeline Company has a toll-free number for anyone wishing to file a claim in connection to Saturday's fire. 1-866-420-1692.
