The Groves Police Department has issued a statement following an arrest in the Monday-night shooting death of a Nederland man.

Police say the victim was shot in the chest with a shotgun around 9:45 p.m. in the 3100 block of Cleveland Avenue in Groves.  The victim,  identified by police and family members as Cody Charles Hokett, 26, of Nederland, was taken to Christus Hospital St. Mary in Port Arthur by Acadian Ambulance.

Mr. Hokett was pronounced dead at the hospital.

John Mason Broadway, 25, was quickly identified as a person of interest and police began searching for him.

Shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday, Broadway was found in a car at the intersection of West Lucas Drive and Folsom Drive in Beaumont.  Beaumont police arrested Broadway and handed him over to Groves police officers.

A news release issued by the Groves Police Department says Broadway is in the Jefferson County Jail charged with murder.  He has not yet been arraigned and bond has not been set.

The shotgun that officers believe was used in the shooting has been found and taken into evidence.

Officers say Broadway "indicated to police" that he was responsible for the death of Cody Hokett.

Investigators are still trying to determine a motive.
