Changes to City Park Fees Paying Off

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

The City Parks Department said changes it made to the fees it charges to use ballparks and basketball courts are paying off.

The Greenwood Softball Complex is a bond 2008 project, where teams pay anywhere from $100-150 to rent the field per day.

The City said before last year, it used a flat-fee system, but that didn't attract tournaments to town. So the City changed its rates, and is attracting more business.

That means more visitors spending money at our hotels and restaurants.

"We created these tournament fees last year to create a structure that would incentivize tournaments to come here, and it seems to be working," City Parks Director Michael Morris said.

In dollars, the fee changes have meant about an additional $5,000 so far.
