Last week, City Council approved a name change for Corpus Christi Beach.
It happened after a number of businesses in that area, along with the Convention and Visitor's Bureau, agreed that the area should be officially renamed North Beach. After all, many people still call it that, despite the fact that City Council changed the name to Corpus Christi Beach in 1959.
But on Tuesday, there was a bit of a debate over the name change, as Council attempted to pass the measure on a second and final reading.
"There are at least another 100 North Beaches," North Beach resident JoAnn Gilberson said. "There is only one Corpus Christi Beach."
"I like Corpus Christi Beach, personally," Councilman John Marez said. "It's more unique."
In the end, Council signed off on the name change, so Corpus Christi Beach is now North Beach.
