Students Build Robots at Del Mar Summer Camp

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Some young geniuses have spent part of their summer at Del Mar College expanding their minds and building robots.

About 100 local middle and high school students have spent the last seven weeks in a camp called Pre-Freshman Engineering. They learn how to build rough and tough mobile robots, which they put to the test Tuesday.

"Oh, yes, it was a lot of fun," student Jack Bane said. "We put a lot of work into this robot. It seems to really pay off after we won the competition. I think it turned out really good."

"It's a great adventure. The robot is a lot of fun," student Richard Martinez said. "There was a lot of trial and error to build."

"I think it's a pretty good camp, because you get to learn more about engineering and math," student Tarolina Martinez said. "And it will give us a chance to get an extra high school credit."

The camp happens every summer at Del Mar College, and it's free.
