After allegedly hitting 25 banks, an accused bank robber is behind bars Tuesday night. One of those banks was the Wells Fargo in Kingsville.
It wasn't easy catching the thief. Police said the hardest part was he never stayed in one place.
Police said that 39-year old Michael Aron Aldridge walked into the Wells Fargo on 14th Street, and handed the teller a note demanding money and indicating he had a gun. He left with more than $8,000.
Authorities said he robbed about 25 banks all over Texas and Florida. He has confessed to these robberies. He was mostly targeting Wells Fargo Banks in Texas. Police said that, because he traveled so much and never stayed in one place, it made it harder for them to catch him.
"He was pretty systematic in what he did," Kingsville Chief of Police Ricardo Torres said. "He spent very little time in the bank, and quickly went into an area and quickly left the area. So we had information that would lead to his arrest, and the FBI actually put two and two together."
Local authorities were working very closely with federal agencies to put Aldridge behind bars. He now faces federal charges, and is currently being held in a federal prison in Florida.
