Shooting Suspect Arrested in Alice Gang-Related Violence

Posted: Updated:
ALICE (Kiii News) -

Police arrested a man and charged him with murder following a shooting in Alice that took place over the weekend, leading to the death of three people.

Police said 23-year old Andrew Garcia shot and killed two men early Sunday morning in a shootout between rival gangs on the 300 block of Nayer Street.

The two men were inside an sport utility vehicle at the time of the shooting. They fled the scene, but ended up crashing the SUV into a fence down the street at a nearby school.

Another man in the vehicle also died, and still another was left critically injured.

Shots rang out on Escobar Street Tuesday, in what many believed to be retaliation for Sunday's shooting. Officials swarmed the scene, and that's where they found Garcia. Police also made other arrests at a home for possession of cocaine.

Alice Police Chief Daniel Bueno said, despite the violence, the community is safe.

"I am confident that our community is safe," Bueno said. "Alice is a safe place."
