More Arrests in Alice's Gang-Related Shootout

Posted: Updated:
ALICE (Kiii News) -

In light of all of the recent gang activity in Alice, police have arrested two known gang members on gun charges.

Early Wednesday morning, police picked up 19-year old Antonio Castillo for unlawful possession of a firearm, and 24-year old Joseph Uribe for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, as well as possession of marijuana.

In the past three days, there have been at least three gang-related shootings in Alice. The most serious was a shootout that happened early Sunday morning, in which four people died, including and 18-year old named Issac Vela.

Police are now certain that Vela was shot by a man by the name of Juan Benavides, but since Benavides was also shot and killed that night, there is no one to prosecute for Vela's murder.

On Tuesday, police arrested 23-year old Andrew Garcia and charged him with the murder of Benavides and another man who died in that Sunday shootout.
