In a 4 to 2 vote Thursday night, Beaumont ISD trustees approved a contract that will allow Walker's Electric Company to continue to perform work for the district. Trustees Janice Brassard and Mike Neil voted against a continuing contract with Walker's Electric for repairs, installation and maintenance services for the next school year.
Trustee Tom Neild, who has been vocal against continuing business with Walker's Electric, was not at Thursday's meeting. Calvin Walker attended the meeting.
Walker pleaded guilty last week to one misdemeanor count of not paying personal income tax. Under a plea agreement, 37 counts related to charges walker overbilled the school district by nearly 4 million dollars, were dropped.
Before Thursday's vote, trustees heard from several people who spoke out against continued business between BISD and Walker's Electric. Only one person from the audience spoke in favor of the business relationship.
Board president, Woodrow Reece, says the district should try to get back the money spent of the trial.
