Investigators in Port Arthur are looking for the person responsible for the city's 9th arson in the past two months.
Firefighters were called to a house located at 3920 3rd Street around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Crews were able to quickly put out the fire.
The fire appeared to have started in the center of the vacant house.
Port Arthur Assistant Fire Marshal Paul Washburn says investigators are looking at the possibility the recent arsons have ties to other crimes.
"We are looking into whether these fires could be part of a gang initiation in our area. It's one of the possibilities we are checking," said Washburn.
Authorities do not yet know if the fire is related to eight arsons that occurred in June.
Officials are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Investigators ask anyone with information about the fire to call the arson hotline at (409) 983-8715.
