A Port Arthur teen has pleaded guilty to a charge of intoxication manslaughter and another charge of intoxication assault.  Both charges stem from an accident that killed a Groves teenager and injured another in 2011.

The accident happened in the 3600 block of Cleveland Avenue near the intersection with Terrell Street in Groves.  According to 12News HD file stories, Tyler Lee Ramirez, who was 17 when the accident occurred, was driving his 2002 Toyota 4-Runner on April 25, 2011 when he hit Jesse Joseph Sawyer, 16, who was riding a skateboard.  Sawyer died from his injuries.

A 16-year-old who was on a bicycle was also hit.  He was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth with severe injuries.  He survived.

Ramirez, now 18, was indicted in June 2011 for second-degree intoxication manslaughter and third-degree intoxicated assault.  He entered a guilty plea to both counts Monday before 252nd District Court Judge Layne Walker.

Sentencing has been set for August 27.
