Three 18-Wheelers Involved in Fatal Hwy 72 Accident
AREA 3 (Kiii News) - A mangled mess was all that was left after a fatal accident on Highway 72 between Tilden and Three Rivers on Monday.
Three 18-wheelers collided, leaving two drivers dead and another clinging to life.
Department of Public Safety troopers said it was around 11 a.m. when one 18-wheeler carrying gravel was headed east on Highway 72 when it drifted into oncoming traffic, side-swiping one big rig. The impact caused the big rig to rollover. The gravel truck then struck another 18-wheeler head-on.
"The third driver had some pretty bad injuries," trooper Aaron Frazier said. "He is in critical condition."
The section of Highway 72 where the accident occurred remained closed for much of the afternoon. It's expected to be fully reopened around 7 p.m.
