Bolivar Peninsula drowning victim identified

Posted: Updated:

Officials have identified a fisherman who drowned off Bolivar Peninsula Tuesday morning.  Authorities identify the man as Riley Amick, 33, of Pearland.

A man told police Amick was wade fishing and was swept off shore by strong currents.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew assisted by a Galveston County Sheriff's Office deputy on a jet ski found and recovered Amick's body about an hour later.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the fisherman," stated Zack Edwards, a watchstander at Sector Houston-Galveston.

"The Coast Guard would like to remind all fishermen to be aware of strong currents and if at all possible to wear a life jacket when out on the water.

Officials have asked that the victim's name not be released pending notification of next of kin.
