Massive crowds of cars and people filled Chick-Fil-A restaurant parking lots Wednesday, not just for food, but to make a statement.
Former Republican Presidential Candidates Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum called for a Chick-Fil-A appreciation day in support of the restaurant's President's stand in support of traditional marriage.
Cars circle Chick-Fil-A as in Southeast Texas lines out the door, not just for food, but in support of the Cathy's view against gay marriage, sparking a hot button topic.
"This is the time to take a stand that marriage is between a man and a woman this is what God defined as marriage," said Richard Middlebrook.
"Why are they trying to stop people from what makes them happy?" said Kloyee Etgeton.
From Beaumont to Port Arthur, people piled in for Chick-Fil-A after the Cathy said he believes in the biblical definition of marriage between a man and woman, but Kloyee Etgeton ate across the street from the bustling lines.
"I have a cousin that's gay and he's perfectly happy," said Etgeton. "I would never go to Chick-Fil-A. I just think it's inappropriate for them to make that statement."
Others praise Cathy for announcing his religious beliefs.
Some say it's an issue of free speech.
"We ought to be able to say what our views are freely because this is America," said Jeri Pratt.
Etgeton agrees.
"Everybody can have their own opinion. I believe it's whatever makes you happy."
She believes the lines might dwindle as those supporting same sex marriage flock elsewhere.
Same sex couples are planning a counter event Friday across the nation. They'll be having a Chick-Fil-A kiss-in.
