The neighborhood where shots were fired at police on Thursday is on edge.
12News HD reporter Ellie Cano knocked on doors to find out how neighbors in the area feel about being so close to what could have been a deadly situation.
"It scared me really bad," said Essie Whitfield who lives a couple blocks away from where shots were fired at the Beaumont SWAT team. She says she was shocked to hear a policewoman knocking at her door this morning.
"She said he ran this way make sure you stay in the house and I'm going to lock your car," said Whitfield.
Whitfield immediately locked her doors and was left to wait wondering what was happening down the street.
"Usually nothing happens this close to home," she said.
But because police were serving a narcotics warrant they do say this area is problematic and as a result some neighbors say violence in this area comes as no surprise.
"This neighborhood is just getting outrageous I don't know what's going on," said Dorothy Whitting.
Whitting and a number of other neighbors waited for hours for any information only growing more upset at the crime on her streets.
"Every week I'm blocked off from getting to my home or to a relatives house so something's wrong," she said.
Although police announced themselves before entering the home other neighbors believe the suspects only shot at police because the men in this house had recently been robbed.
"They were just being prepared, they didn't know it was officers," said one neighbor.
"Who in their right mind would shoot at police when they know, so they didn't know," said another.
But Whitting thinks change needs to be made in her neighborhood and local government should get involved.
"We need to get out council members out on these streets and see what's really going on," said Whitting.
However, all the residents in the area agree, they hope the violence will end.
Sergeant Rob Flores says police have been called to the neighborhood in the 1900 block of Ives multiple times.
And this is not the first time they have had to deal with criminal activity at the home where the shooting took place.
