CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A local woman is now out of the hospital after she contracted the West Nile Virus here at home. She is the first human victim of West Nile Virus in Nueces County.

The woman, in her 20s, had to be hospitalized for a few days, but has recovered and is doing well. Health officials said this positive result was not unexpected, since there have been quite a number of positive mosquito pools found within the city limits.

In Texas, there have been 197 human cases of West Nile Virus confirmed. The Texas Department of Health and Human Services reports that there have been four West Nile-related deaths in Texas this year, with none reported locally.
