Texas State Aquarium Unveils New Flight Cage

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

After several years of planning, a much needed addition to the Wildlife Care Center at the Texas State Aquarium is now complete.

Construction on a state of the art flight cage began back in January, and it was officially unveiled Friday.

The 4,000 square-foot structure is vital to the rehabilitation process of raptors and other birds, serving as a protected space for the animals to learn, or relearn, how to fly.

"People bring injured birds in here, and then we can release them out into the wild," said Jesse Gilbert of the Texas State Aquarium.

The new facility cost about $70,000 to build.
