If you drove along the Bayfront this weekend, you may have noticed a large number of sailboats in the water. That is because the 50th annual Navy Regatta was in full sail.
"Some folks have got some sailing experience," said Rod Hafemeister, assistant public affairs officer. "For some of these folks, this might be the first time they've ever been on a sailboat."
Sunday was the Military Challenge Cup. Every yacht had to be skippered by active-duty military personnel.
The Corpus Christi and Bay yacht clubs sponsored the race. After it wrapped up, the Yacht Club held an awards ceremony to honor the winners and those who have served our country and got a taste of sailing this weekend, some for the very first time.
