CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
A Houston man who has been accused in a human smuggling case and car crash, which killed an illegal immigrant, has pleaded guilty.
It was back in February when 22-year old Leonel Alvarado Abundis-Carreon crashed a truck in Premont. There were 14 illegal immigrants in the truck. One was killed, three were critically injured, and the others ran into the brush.
Carreon told a judge that he was paid $125 for each immigrant he smuggled.
On Monday, Carreon pleaded guilty to smuggling and causing serious bodily injury to a person. He faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
