An arbitrator has ruled against embattled former Beaumont firefighter James Mathews and has dismissed his appeal seeking reinstatement.
According to a news release issued by the City of Beaumont, Mathews was indefinitely suspended on October 7, 2008 for "numerous violations of various civil service rules and fire department regulations."
According to 12News HD file stories, Mathews was fired after he was accused of an assault in 2008. He was not convicted of the charge and the city would not rehire Mathews.
Mathews and the city have had numerous hearings and appeals since his termination. He has not served in the fire department since the last time his suspension was reinstated in 2011.
