2-year-old who died in driveway accident identified

UPDATE: The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has identified a 2-year-old who died Wednesday after she was hit by a car.

A Sheriff's Office spokesperson identified the child as Mikayla Hope Wilcox.

Officials say Wilcox died from trauma sustained in the motor vehicle accident.

Deputies say the accident happened in the 400 block of Sandringham Road at about 1:30 p.m.. Witnesses tell investigators the car was in the process of backing out of a driveway when the child walked into its path. The child was transported to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth but was pronounced dead when she arrived.
