A 25-year old man on trial for sexual assault of a minor has been found not guilty by a jury Wednesday.
The jury reached their not guilty decision not long after closing arguments. 25-year old John Raul Valenzuela was accused of raping and sodomizing a 10-year old family member on several occasions when the girl was six and seven years old.
"Doesn't make sense," said Simon Purnell, Valenzuela's attorney. "Was there opportunity for him to do this repeatedly during this time period? There wasn't. Simply wasn't."
"What his premise is, is that the offender should not be punished, should not be held accountable," prosecutor Brittany Jensen said. "The child, who has a dysfunctional family and no injuries, does not deserve justice, and does not deserve this community to protect her."
Both sides rested Tuesday, after the 10-year old girl took the stand. The nurse that examined the 10-year old girl said she had no visible scars on her body or private parts.
