PORT ARANSAS (Kiii News) -
The Port Aransas Ferry Service is getting a big grant from the Federal Highway Administration.
They will be sending $1.7-million to pay for the addition of more pylon clusters in the docking areas. The idea is to provide added protection for the larger 27-vehicle ferries that were put into service last summer.
"Safety is our number one concern," Ferry Operations Manager Howard Gillespie said.
The work is scheduled to be completed over the next year.
