Helping young girls build their self esteem and develop their creative side all through the gift of rock-n-roll is the goal behind a special camp taking place this week.
The Chicas Rock Camp is held over at the Al Gonzalez Gym on South Brownlee Street. The week-long summer camp is designed to give local kids a different outlet through music and art.
"We get to see them grow," said Kristen Billy, who works with the Chicas Rock Camp. "You know, a lot of these girls come in and they are pretty shy, so we actually give them that outlet."
The young girls will show off their talents at a special showcase from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Aria downtown.
